INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING NHDB
  1. Ensure you have a valid library card number and PIN/password, if required from your local NH public library.
  2. To listen to audiobooks or read on a smartphone/tablet, install the “Libby, by OverDrive” app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
    1. To read an eBook on a Kindle eReader, Kindle Fire, or Kindle app, it is not necessary to install the Libby app. All checkouts can be done on your browser of choice by visiting https://nh.overdrive.com
    2. Note that all Kindle users will need to associate the Kindle Book checkout to their library checkouts to their Amazon account and will be brought to a page on Amazon during each checkout.
  3. The Libby app will prompt you to find your library. In this statewide service, you will search for the New Hampshire State Library.
  4. Then you will be prompted to add your library card. Note that each individual public library will be listed as a “branch.” Scroll through the 200 libraries by town name.
  5. You are now set up and ready to borrow eBooks or audiobooks!
LIBRARIAN TIPS FOR FINDING AVAILABLE TITLES

Visit the live site at https://nh.overdrive.com and click on “search” >> “Advanced”

Then select “All Audiobooks” or “All eBooks” and change the "Availability" to "Available Now" -- and then click search. It will pull up more than 9000 titles that are available for you to read right now!

Sorting the results by popularity allows you to see bestsellers that you might have missed!

Remember that any audiobook or eBook you check out under your library account on the website will appear automatically on the Libby app!

Ask your local librarian for more assistance.

READER TIP: ADDING NAVIGATION BAR LABELS TO LIBBY

It is now possible to add text labels to the navigation bar that sits at the bottom of the Libby app. Here is how:

Tap on the small "Libby-head" at the bottom of the app. Note that the "Libby-head" will soon be replaced with the standard settings icon indicated with three horizontal lines.

Next tap "Settings" and then "Customize Navigation."

And then enable "Labeled Icons."

Now there are small text labels below the icons!

TROUBLESHOOTING TIPS

Downloading MP3 Audiobooks on Windows Computer

All Windows computers require the OverDrive Media Console software to download an MP3 audiobook. Unfortunately, the OMC has been removed from all app stores and is no longer available to install. If you have the software installed on a Windows computer, it is possible to continue to download MP3s at this time, until approximately the end of 2022. Note that you will need to click on "Do you have the OverDrive app?' to see the MP3 download option.

SECURITY WARNINGS ON APPLE DEVICES

From OverDrive: As of October 2021, Libby is no longer supported on iPhones and iPads running iOS 9. This is because of a recent change made by Libby's web certificate provider (learn more about their change).

This change may also affect those trying to use libbyapp.com in older web browsers.

Affected users may see security warnings in Libby or have trouble using some or all of Libby's features, including signing in, browsing, borrowing, or loading content.

To continue using Libby:

If updates aren't available, please switch to another device supported by Libby.

This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the New Hampshire State Library.
